The adoption of an auction system will give all Ukrainians cheaper and cleaner energy.
Today, the Parliament of Ukraine has conducted the round table devoted to a topic: |The world experience of the auction system on procurement of renewables| organized by the Committee of Ukraine on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Safety, and partners from EBRD.
In the scope of the round table, the director of EBRD’s Power and Energy Utilities team – Harry Boyd-Carpenter made a presentation on EBRD’s experience in introduction of auctions for renewables projects.
The development of renewable energy has no alternatives in the world. Today, we are 10 years past since the first approval of the system on “green tariffs” in Ukraine. In September 2008 there was adopted a law that provided us with the notion of “green tariffs” in order to stimulate production of electricity from renewables.
However, the current model of renewables needs improvements
The number of countries that have already been introduced with the auction system on procurement of energy from renewables increased out of 6 countries in 2005 to approximately 70 in 2018.
The aim of the auction system is cheap and clean energy for all Ukrainians.
In June, our team in cooperation with other members of Parliament developed and registered a draft law (N:8449) that aims to introduce a new system for renewable energy support.
In total, 56 MPs submitted 8 draft bills on the new system of support – with a record in law making field of renewables and energy as a whole.
It was deeply essential to all energy stake-holders to see strategy and overall view of our strategic investors like EBRD on that topic. Their experience of work in different countries and recommendations provided to Ukraine are really important.
